Set over the course of Halloween night in 1986, THE LAST NIGHT OF OCTOBER
(“TLNO”) is a coming of age comedy in which three friends set out to fulfill their intense,
twelve year-old appetite for candy. What begins as a simple mission turns into the
adventure of their young lives as a series of obstacles including overprotective parents,
cops, teenagers on the loose, a Creepy Van Man and a new thing called “girls,”
present themselves.
The idea for the film was hatched after we wondered why every movie about Halloween
had to be a horror film. To us, the real horror was not the fear of Jason slashing you to
bits or Freddy invading your dreams, it was the fear of having your candy confiscated
because of a supposed razor blade scare, being egged and tormented by older kids in
the neighborhood, or even worse, getting trapped in and old lady’s house while she
tried to feed you old butterscotch candies and Mary Jane’s.
The screenplay was written by Robbie Chafitz.
